Atlanta is often referred to as the gay capital of the South. And while San Francisco has its own gay district—known as the Castro—the Atlanta gay population lives, works and plays all over the city and even into the suburbs. The weekend is usually held in Midtown's Piedmont Park with a parade and many other activities as it was started to commemorate the Stonewall Riots in New York City.
Hi I just read somewhere that Midtown in right in the heart of the gay district. I'm not a homophobe or anythign but can anyone tell me what its like and as a heterosexual should i stay in another area for night life and bars etc?? Midtown's been the center of the gay community in Atlanta for decades, but it's never been exclusively gay or hetero-hostile in any way.

There are a handful of neighborhoods that offer proximity to fabulous gay bars and nightlife, so pull that U-Haul up to your new home in a gay-friendly part of town. Living in Midtown puts you in the heart of gay Atlanta, and an easy walk to Atlanta's favorite park, Piedmont Park. You can even watch the Pride parade from your apartment or condo's sexy rooftop pool.
